Qualifying schools/campuses are encouraged to establish IIDA Campus Centers. IIDA Campus Centers will allow Student members greater flexibility and participation regarding their membership. By establishing Campus Centers, Students will have the opportunity to plan activities tailored specifically to their needs.

  • A Campus Center
  • Is Membership
  • Is Students
  • Is Programs
  • Is focused on the Student members' needs, while
still making its activities available to the Chapter
  • The Campus Center reports to the Chapter
The IIDA Campus Centers will work in tandem with all of the existing IIDA Chapters, including international chapters. As with IIDA City Centers, the individual Chapter Board will serve as an administrative center. Accordingly, an IIDA Campus Center's governance structure and operation is subject to the bylaws, policies, and procedures as approved by the Chapter:

IIDA Campus Centers Requirements & Guidelines
  • Minimum of 10 Student members and one Professional member
  • May have its own Campus Teams/and or committees, including a Campus Director
  • Must have at least one direct liaison to its respective Chapter Board
  • Must have regular communications with Chapter (attendance at Chapter meeting by Board Liaison)
  • Must substantiate expenses and revenues with regular budget reports to Chapter Board (frequency to be determined by Chapter)
  • May formulate own Campus Center mission statement (which must further the goals of the organization)

IIDA Campus Center participants are encouraged to establish programs and activities geared specifically towards the interests of students, educators and practitioners in a particular geographic area. Campus Centers should work in conjunction with individual Chapters in planning and implementing various programs. Campus Centers are required to submit written budget reports on programs or events requiring financial support from Chapters. Any Chapter member may attend any program offered by any City Center or Campus Center.

IIDA Campus Center Suggested Activities & Programs

  • Regular meetings regarding Association news, membership issues, and general info
  • Student membership recruitment events
  • Planned events: tours of design facilities/firms; presentations/seminars by professional members
  • Forum club - informal clubs within the Campus Center devoted to the eight IIDA Specialty Forums(commercial, education & research, facility planning & design, government, healthcare, hospitality, residential, and retail)
  • International club - group focusing on international issues and interest; should incorporate international student members/recruit international student members
  • Invited speakers

In order to allow for maximum flexibility, the following Student membership models are available to individual Student members and potential Campus Centers:

Model 1:
Schools in regions/chapters with multiple design programs/schools in widely dispersed
geographic areas such as Los Angeles or Orange County can coordinate into one main Campus Center to serve the various programs. Instead of multiple Campus Centers within the same geographic area, the idea is to centralize the system with one Campus Center that will report to the respective Chapter. (Student members also have the option of joining a City Center, if they are satisfied with existing student membership programs and events).

Model 2a:
Schools in areas that are geographically isolated from their local Chapters can establish
themselves as an IIDA Campus Center.

Model 2b:
Schools/programs can establish a design club that will allow students to choose and/or
establish membership in IIDA, ASID, or NKBA, AIA, etc. The goal is to incorporate all these
organizations into a unified entity that will maximize the learning process for the students, as well as unifying the various organizations.

Model 3:
Students in programs which do not fill any of the above categories may be considered
individual student members or students at large. Students would receive the bulk of their student membership benefits and organizational information via mail from either IIDA Headquarters or their local Chapters
.
