Take advantage of the best offer of the year, when you sign up the rest of 2018 is FREE with your 2019 Membership and the application fee is waived!! Join IIDA today! Our Chapter has a lot of great things in store for 2019…

Whew, we’ve had a busy Fall so far! This year’s Board of Directors kicked off their year in July with a three (3) day Board Retreat to strategize about the upcoming year and met again this Fall to translate our vision into next year’s event list and budgets. We are extremely jazzed about offering new types of events throughout all our City Centers, purposefully so you’re able to attend events and maximize your member benefits on a local level!

Current happenings include our annual Sponsorship Campaign early this year and we’re looking for your commitment by December 14, however you can still wait to pay until the end of January – it’s the best of both worlds! This gives us a greater opportunity for our Chapter to more effectively plan events and budgets in the upcoming year. AND… because of the overwhelming generosity of all our outstanding sponsors, we will no longer be asking for individual event donations outside of this sponsorship program! We started this program 8 years ago and have been growing ever since and are proud that we continue to meet and exceed our goals year after year!!!

A huge shout out and thank you to this year’s ELEVATE planning committee in Des Moines for such a successful event! What a great day to elevate our profession, our community and ourselves in a day focused on professional development. (download presentation) And if you missed it, there were some exciting new announcements too…

The Chapter has started a new program this year, called the Chapter Leadership Committee, which was formally announced at the ELEVATE event. This committee is made up of 7 members representing all three (3) City Centers with a combined 144 years of experience! Many in this group of highly acclaimed individuals have served as past presidents, as well as an IIDA Fellow with over 44+ years as an Educator. Their focus as a part of this committee is to be a resource to the Chapter Board bringing their past knowledge as well as a fresh perspective to enhance our profession and offerings within the Great Plains Chapter. Check out more here!

Also announced at this year’s ELEVATE event was the recipient of the first ever Design Leadership Fund (DLF)! To learn more about the DLF and your chance to win next year, check out our website here! This year’s winner (drumroll, please) was awarded to Katrina L. Stoffel for a four-day expertise course in the Color Design Program instructed by Leatrice Eisemen, the Executive Direct of the Pantone Color Institute. This immersive course will focus of the professional and business logistics side of color, presentation techniques and the importance of color in the marketplace. It is something Katrina expressed interest in several years ago and in her words… “I finally get to go!” Katrina intends to bring her knowledge back to our Chapter by offering a Continuing Education Course based on her learned skills for color next year! For more information on the winning submission, visit our website here!

Did you vote?!? We hope so because your voice matters related to Advocacy in both Iowa and Nebraska! In Iowa, we’re looking forward to the results of our Advocacy Survey to better understand what NCIDQ holders are looking for! We want to continually focus on promoting the number of Registered Interior Designers in the State to keep our current Legislation! And in Nebraska, we’re working to raise more awareness about what Interior Designers do and why it matters so we can work to introduce legislation there too! Help us - if you’re interested, please reach out directly to the VP’s of Advocacy to get more involved.

This Spring, we will be hosting our annual IDEA Awards in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, so stay tuned for the upcoming release of project submission kit requests in January!! Last year we had a record-breaking number of project entries of the highest caliber and we expect nothing less this year, so be thinking about your best and brightest projects now - you won’t want to miss out on this year’s show!!

Thank you to all of our Members that are actively engaged and volunteer for our Chapter – you matter! We are looking forward to 2019 with great events and initiatives planned and we hope you’ll join us for another great year!!!
