The daylit multi-purpose play-space forms the nucleus of this childcare facility. The 64-foot custom casework forms the space’s north edge and is the subject of this “moment” submittal. The playful white oak casework serves many functions. The corridor side of the assembly is adult-scaled and provides storage for teachers. On the multi-purpose room side, it is a child-scaled wonderland of nooks and pathways that are reinforced by the corresponding linoleum floor pattern. Children engage with the casework through active play or by finding an alcove for quiet contemplation. The casework serves as a dynamic backdrop for student programs and public meetings. Monitors mounted on the soffit above support these functions. The interior floor pattern extends beyond the southern full-height windows and is expressed in the rubber playground surface outside. The color palette is inspired by tulip fields of the Netherlands, a nod to the town’s rich Dutch heritage.
