The initial goals for Steelhouse in Omaha were driven by a need to fill a gap in the local entertainment scene. The client recognized a specific niche within the market for a medium-sized event and concert venue catered to artists in the transitional phase of their careers, offering them a platform to showcase their talents to a larger audience without the overwhelming scale of an arena. Multiple design themes emerged, but all pointed to balance. The venue's size and atmosphere were designed to balance a casual setting with a high-end feeling. Interior spaces needed to be highly durable, yet also relaxing for the artists and crew after being on the road. The design inspiration originated from a desire to create a distinctive and captivating landmark within the city and the interior design was carefully curated to harmonize with its bold exterior. The intent was a refined, yet exposed environment. Structural metal panels joints were left visible to give a sense of how the building came together. This was echoed in the back of house spaces where custom street art installation and highly detailed metal work were showcased. The result is a funky and memorable space light enough to not take itself too seriously. The artist’s dressing rooms were designed with a keen understanding of the music industry, incorporating elements that resonate with the vibrant and dynamic world of pop and rock such as metal mesh panels, artwork shaped out of cassette tape, and graffiti-inspired tile. These spaces provide artists with a comfortable and inspiring environment. A notable feature of the interior is the VIP lounge, where a deliberate choice was made to evoke an upscale and exclusive atmosphere through rich, deep colors and luxurious textures. Other standout features of the VIP lounge are its access to a balcony with breathtaking views overlooking the city and a private bar meticulously designed with a mix of metals, glass, and sophisticated lighting. This space stands out from the rest of the building, offering a premium experience for patrons seeking a heightened level of comfort and luxury. Special attention was given to lighting throughout the venue, creating an ambiance that complements the building's modern and enigmatic facade. This lighting design not only enhances the overall atmosphere but also contributes to the immersive experience by facilitating wayfinding. Just as the venue will be utilized by a wide variety of performers, our designers had to address the needs and priorities of a wide variety of stakeholders. Their feedback played a crucial role in determining the most effective seating layouts for the venue. This included considerations for maximizing audience capacity, ensuring clear sightlines for attendees, and creating an intimate and engaging atmosphere. Additionally, collaboration with Live Nation, a prominent entertainment company specializing in event promotion and ticket sales management, proved valuable. This strategic partnership helped us identify and implement elements such as dressing room layouts and preferred acoustic materials in line with industry standards, ensuring Steelhouse offered a competitive and appealing experience to both artists and audiences.
