Designing this new, healthcare satellite campus provided a unique opportunity to improve the overall patient, visitor, and staff experience. With a cross-section of stakeholders, the design team facilitated a process that included empathy mapping, surveys, interviews, workshops, and experience journey mapping. This data uncovered areas where spatial clarity could aid user experience and navigation of the 469,607sf; seven-story building. Upon entering the building, a central lobby acts as the facility’s heart. Flanked by two sets of elevators, an information desk acts as the valve that directs visitors to quick diagnostic services to the south, clinics to the east, or hospital functions to the west. Accent lighting and biophilic graphics highlight destination and decision points, including at the elevators and check-in desks. Daylighting plays a major role in orientation and wellness. These active and passive wayfinding cues pair with biophilic finishes and locally inspired graphics to put visitors at ease and instill confidence. An onstage/offstage model enhances efficiency and privacy. Staff enjoy daylight-filled lounges and wellness spaces. Flexible planning accommodates future growth, with shell spaces and expansion zones integrated throughout. Dedicated research and education areas foster collaboration and innovation. Restored ecology connects patients and staff to nature. Socially, the facility promotes well-being through inclusive access and restorative spaces. Economically, it reduces operational efficiency and is built to last and adapt. Environmentally, the building is highly energy-efficient and supports sustainable development. The facility redefines healthcare and creates healthy experiences for all occupants.
