ITA Group firmly believes its people are their biggest asset. Through the execution of their recent relocation project, they believed that supporting those people is extremely important, including the physical environment they provide for them. Because they leveraged the expertise of our interior designers, the outcome is an amazing representation of the power of great design. ITA Group wanted to relocate from multiple Regency West Office Park buildings to a newly renovated Arcadia building in West Des Moines. The new building offered a much larger footprint, allowing their entire staff to be located under one roof. In partnership with the landlord, the larger building also allowed them space for other amenities including a large training area, beautiful outdoor spaces, and a daycare. We helped the client develop a clear vision with straightforward project goals at the onset of the project, based on input gathered from all employees. That vision was successfully paired with our design team’s insights and experience to turn that vision into reality. Each area was carefully designed to support specific functions performed throughout the workday, ranging from formal collaboration within conference rooms to respite space in a “zen zone”. The entire space was designed to maximize the natural light for all employees and capture as much ceiling height as possible given existing conditions. The client’s sustainability committee also provided input throughout the entire design process based on what was most important to them. One of the key building features was cutting an opening between floors in the space to create a voluminous lobby and open stairway for easy circulation between floors that encourages connections between team members. Above the staircase, you’ll find a beautifully designed custom light fixture that mimics the shape of the company’s logo in a subtle, yet highly impactful, way. The overall concept for colors, materials, and finishes was also straightforward. The palette of the building finishes is timeless and serves as a relatively neutral backdrop for graphics and branding to be added by the client’s internal marketing team that can easily be updated and evolve over time. The company’s colorful logo provided an impactful design direction. The carefully curated use of vibrant colors on interior furnishings created welcoming environments to inspire team members and create wayfinding throughout the expansive footprint. With a very condensed project schedule driving efficiency, our design team, client team, and contractor had to do the following: have clear expectations of each other; set milestones and hold each other accountable; and leverage technology extensively to expedite the process. Much of our design work was done in person with ITA and aided by rendering software that we were updating in real-time to show the effects of their various selections and make decisions very quickly. Through this close collaboration, we successfully completed design and construction for 152,000 square feet in approximately ten months. ITA’s success has been measured and proven by the overwhelmingly positive response from their team members who are choosing to work within their newly renovated, modern, amenity-rich office environment.
